Supreme Court Upholds HC Order on Maharashtra Civic Polls
The Supreme Court approved the Bombay High Court’s directive for the Maharashtra State Election Commission to declare results of civic body elections after the next voting round on December 20, despite pending appeals. Elections were held for 264 out of the scheduled municipal councils and nagar panchayats on December 2, while 24 seats were postponed due to nomination disputes. The court emphasized that the election results can be announced after the final phase of polling to avoid voter influence. The pendency of petitions in the High Court will not delay the results’ declaration.
