'ED erred': Probe agencies can't summon lawyers, says AG

NEW DELHI: Attorney General R. Venkataramani acknowledged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) erred in summoning senior advocates Arvind Datar and Pratap Venugopal for legal opinions in a money laundering case, stating that all probe agencies will be instructed to avoid such actions in the future. Chief Justice B.R. Gavai emphasized that lawyer-client communications are privileged, highlighting the need for guidelines to prevent ED overreach.
