IST to be mandatory time reference, govt asks banks, stock exchanges to discontinue using other systems

NEW DELHI: The Indian government will make Indian Standard Time (IST) the mandatory time reference for all activities, urging banks, stock exchanges, and critical infrastructure sectors to stop using GPS and other systems. This initiative, backed by the Consumer Affairs Ministry and the National Physical Laboratory, aims to enhance cybersecurity and ensure accurate timekeeping through an indigenous system utilizing atomic clocks.
