Hi-tech identity fraud: How UP-based gang tampered Aadhaar biometrics in 12 states

In a hi-tech identity fraud racket uncovered by UP police in Badaun and Amroha, four key players were arrested for tampering with biometric data of over 1,500 Aadhaar cardholders across 12 states, exploiting UIDAI loopholes to make changes for a fee. The gang operated a network of 200-300 agents who facilitated fraudulent updates to Aadhaar cards, manipulated ration card data, and even created fake passports using counterfeit websites and modified fingerprint scanners. Despite stricter verification norms, the gang managed to generate over 20 fake passports, underscoring the sophistication of their operation.
