India, Sri Lanka ink defence partnership pact following talks between PM Modi, President Dissanayaka

India and Sri Lanka signed a defense cooperation pact and agreements to develop Trincomalee as an energy hub and provide grant assistance to Sri Lanka’s eastern region after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The leaders also inaugurated the Sampur solar power project virtually and finalized several agreements during Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka following his attendance at a BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok. Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Independence Square in Colombo, a first for a foreign leader.
