The Indian government approved a ₹62,000 crore defense contract for 156 indigenous attack helicopters designed for extreme terrain and weather conditions, particularly high-altitude areas along the eastern borders. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will produce the helicopters, with nearly 40% of the work outsourced to the private sector, aiming to deliver the first chopper within three years.
