Russia is interested in partnering with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to re-enter the competition to supply medium transport aircraft (MTA) to the Indian Air Force, aiming to replace the ageing An32 fleet with at least 80 MTA. Despite previous concerns about technology, Russia is offering the IL276 for the project, as global manufacturers seek partnerships with Indian entities to secure the multi-billion dollar contract.
