Bangladesh Army chief hints at larger role for military

Bangladesh’s army chief has suggested a potential increased role for the military in governing the country if the interim government fails to address law-and-order issues and protect national sovereignty. General Waqar-Uz-Zaman expressed concerns over internal divisions and urged stakeholders to prioritize the country’s interests to prevent further deterioration. While a complete military takeover is unlikely, Gen Zaman may take on more responsibilities to restore order and seek international support amid rising violence and unrest.
