The Palestinian militant group Hamas is set to release the first hostages as part of a Gaza ceasefire deal on Sunday, following 15 months of war that devastated the region. The ceasefire aims to end the fighting that has caused widespread destruction in Gaza, with over 46,000 casualties and massive displacement. Under the agreement, Hamas will release Israeli hostages, while Israel will release Palestinian women and children, potentially leading to the release of up to 1,650 Palestinians.
