The border fencing work along the India-Myanmar border near Moreh town in Manipur is progressing rapidly, with only 10 km currently fenced out of the 398 km border shared with Myanmar. The project, costing Rs 31,000 crore, aims to fence the entire 1,643 km porous border. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh reported the detection of 10,675 illegal immigrants in the state in the last five years, with plans to establish new police stations and outposts at border areas and conduct verification drives to identify and deport illegal immigrants.
