Israel and Lebanon-based Hezbollah militants initiated a ceasefire after nearly 14 months of fighting, with concerns about its sustainability. The agreement requires Hezbollah to withdraw from southern Lebanon and Israeli troops to return to their side of the border, with the deployment of additional Lebanese troops and U.N. peacekeepers. The ceasefire began after Israel conducted intense airstrikes in Beirut, resulting in at least 42 casualties.
