Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd initiated the construction of two next generation offshore patrol vessels (NGOPV) for the Indian Navy, marking the beginning of a project to build a total of four NGOPVs. The NGOPVs will be larger than previous vessels, measuring 113 meters long and 14.6 meters wide, with a displacement of 3,000 tonnes, and will possess enhanced endurance and firepower. The keels were laid at the GRSE headquarters in Kolkata, with West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose expressing pride in India’s shipbuilding achievements and global standing.
