The Army chief emphasized the need to restore trust on the China border and achieve the status quo of April 2020 for normal management of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including a patrolling agreement with China that will involve easing up of positions in Arunachal Pradesh. General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted the steps required for disengagement and de-escalation, with a focus on restoring trust through patrolling to pave the way for larger troop pullbacks in eastern Ladakh. Specific areas of focus in the new deal with China include Yangtse and Asaphila, with Arunachal Pradesh presenting a more complex challenge for disengagement and de-escalation efforts.
