Over 100,000 residents from low-lying coastal zones were evacuated to storm shelters before Cyclone Remal hit Bengal and Bangladesh coast. The “very severe” cyclone brought wind speeds of 110-120kmph and heavy rainfall, causing disruption in Kolkata with 23.9mm of moderate rainfall. The cyclone made landfall between Sagar Island and Khepupara, around 100km from Kolkata, with gusts up to 135kmph.
